Every time you submit your resume for a job or contract application,
you send with it a cover letter. The cover letter needs to be direct
and short. Three short paragraphs in which you guide the reader through
the important points in your well-crafted resume.
Do not:
have any spelling errors
have grammatical errors
Do not patronize
by thanking in advance for consideration: he or she is reading it, why is he or she not being thanked immediately?
by writing to feel free to contact you, are you writing to employers who are in jail?
What is the difference between applying for a job as a physician, or
as a scientist? Physicians are expected to understand content and have
clinical experience, which scientists generally do not have. Scientists
strength is in research, finding information and referencing it, and in
compiling data. Generally your employer only cares about geting their
the job done: what you have to do in your cover letter is explain how
you can get them what they need. That is it. Anything in the letter
that does not explain this, remove it.
Write letter in application for job or contract that you have
pulled off AMWA list or other online job service that you believe you could do
