AAUW is a professional organization for professional women and has for 130 years advocated for women and girls empowerment and equal opportunities. AAUW has 1,000 branches throughout the United States and 100,000 members. AAUW NYC was a 125-year old functioning institution with a USD6 million in assets, including a house on East 37th St between Park and Lexington. Dr Nkechi Madonna Agwu managed to disappear $100,000 from memorial funds (she had control of all 19 bank accounts) turn it into what looked like a failed 3rd world country within 18 months, click here for story.
Dr Nkechi Madonna Agwu became president in July 2009 and used guerrilla tactics to remove one by one everyone competent or caring from the Board of Directors. In April 2010, she lost her ability to sign checks; she quickly regained this right by screaming and yelling racism. By October 2010, she had managed to gain complete control of the assets, by forcing out the treasurer, firing the accountant and the book-keeper. and from then on, gave no financial statements or excuses for her running private parties with nonprofit donated monies.
Known car thief and woman abuser, Lookman Sulaimon Arounfale has an IRS lien against him of $8300, and more than 5 judgments against him of over $10,000: he was elected assistant treasurer during the 2010 election that she rigged through her recruiting her housekeepers and cleaners into AAUW. He became the constant companion of Dr Nkechi Madonna Agwu, (she was his date during the September 9 to 11, 2011 Egbe Omo Yoruba convention). She appointed him Public Relations Officer and started writing him checks from AAUW funds to his non-profit company, Youth Organized Union Inc, aka YOU inc.
In February 2011, AAUW ran an audit of AAUW NYC, 9 months after a visit to find out what was going on in New York. AAUW had been receiving complaints from Dr Nkechi Agwu that the other board members were racist and raping her. AAUW concluded that the branch was in a mess, and asked for documents, and put together a bullet list of what should be done. Some other board members may indeed have been sabotaging the AAUW NYC, files regularly vanished. However, these may have resulted from Dr Agwu's complete disarray; the desks in the AAUW NYC office that she controlled were piled 3 feet high with anything she liked to throw on them. In contrast, the office manager, Jamaican Lydia Williams was a study in elegant organization.
Certainly, long-standing board members wanted Dr Nkechi Agwu out because she was "spending money like water". This accusation was made at a board meeting in May 2010, with a 2-page document that gave the money she was accused of spending without details. At that time, I showed up to AAUW NYC on average once every 2 months, and was listening to Dr Nkechi Agwu talk about how she was under attack solely because she was Black African. I only got her side, and coming from a woman with a Bachelors and Masters in Mathematics and a PhD in Mathematics Education, I certainly believed her.
