You have 1 week to complete this test.
1. Go to the US National Library of Medicine and search the medline database for "misoprostol postpartum hemorrhage", select all abstracts that describe clinical studies or subjective reports from any of the 53 countries of Africa. Download all these abstracts into a word document and remove from each abstract any subjective data. Each abstract has to make sense when you have edited it, most can be edited down to 50% or 25%. Write a summary describing what your findings are from all these research papers.
2. Go to pubmed
at http://www.nlm.nih.gov, search for reviews and
for diabetes. Make a table of reviews on diabetes drugs published
between 2005 and 2010, numbering each reference. You have created
primary data from secondary data: you are not discussing the findings in
the review, which are hearsay, you are discussing what is being
published in diabetes as reviews. Do any drugs predominate? How many of
the reviews talk about drugs or delivery? Write a 200-300 word original
paper describing the trends you have observed. Refer to papers by number
in the table.
3. Find out
when the first patent was awarded for an oral diabetes drug. Find out if
this drug was patented for another use first. Write 100 to 200 words on
your findings plus a table or figure. Hint: go to USPTO.org.
4. Find out
how many patents have been awarded for diabetes drugs to Novo Nordisk.
Find out how many diabetes drugs are in production and in development at
Novo Nordisk. Write 100 to 200 words on your findings plus a table or figure. Hint: go to USPTO.org.
5. Find out
how serious a problem to the lifespan of Americans in diabetes. And how
serious a problem to the lifespan of all across the world. Hint: go to CDC and WHO databases.
